Geekout episode 11 Lasers smartphone cameras and 3D printers

first_imgIt’s that time of the week again! (Well, technically it’s past that time of the week, but Google had some technical difficulties with Hangouts on Air.) Join us for a little recap of all the things we’ve seen and done on this week’s Geekout. When it comes to smartphone marketing, the features a company decides to tout mark a particularly significant decision. Nokia has released more than a few commercials talking about the low light capabilities in the new Lumia 928, while HTC and Samsung have focused on other strengths with their devices. This week, Geek.com’s very own Sal Cangeloso conducted our low light camera shootout with some of the best phones on the market. He found that the HTC One is the smartphone to beat, but the Lumia 928 is right behind it.In this week’s Geekout, Sal and I also talked about how important the camera is to a smartphone now and whether or not a great camera is enough to sell a phone. If you haven’t picked up Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic on iOS, we’ve got a quick breakdown of how this ported game compares to the original. We also talked for a bit about shooting lasers into clouds, and a recent experiment done by Karlsruhe Institute of Technology that showed the beginning signs of weather control as the laser was able to encourage the growth of ice crystals in the clouds. If you’d like to join us on our weekly Geekouts, or if you’ve got a topic you’d like us to talk about on next week’s broadcast, leave us a message here or on our Google+ page.last_img
