DELHI, NY (WBNG) — A head-on collision which occurred Friday morning on State Highway 10 in Delhi claimed the life of a Downsville woman. Delaware County Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced that State Highway 10 in Delhi was re-opened to traffic following the investigation at 2:30 p.m. A passenger in her vehicle, Eugene J. Mils, age 80, was airlifted to Albany Medical Center. A LifeNet medivac helicopter airlifted Elmore to O’Connor Hospital where she died from injuries from the accident. Delware County Sheriff’s say they responded to a 911 report of a two-car, head-on collision, with injuries, near Elk Creek Road. Delaware County Sheriff’s say the cause of the accident is still under investigation by the NY State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division. Along with the Sheriff’s, members of the Delhi and Bloomville Fire Departments and Emergency Squads, AMR Ambulance, LifeNet of New York, and Delaware County Emergency Services also responded, and members of the Walton Volunteer Fire Department and Bovina Emergency Squad were placed on standby. Officials say their investigation found Sandra A. Elmore, age 74, of Downsville was driving north on State Highway 10 when her car crossed into the southbound lane. It collided with a car heading southbound driven by Michael J. Beilby, age 34, of East Meredith, N.Y. Members of the New York State Department of Transportation assisted responders at the scene.
