Henderson wins FWA footballer of the award

first_imgRelatedPosts Liverpool still hungry for success, team captain Henderson says De Bruyne wins Premier League Player of the Season Manchester City not perfect against Lyon, Guardiola says Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has been named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year. The midfielder, who lifted the Reds’ first title for 30 years on Wednesday, was the outright winner ahead of Kevin De Bruyne. He has skippered Liverpool to their first Premier League crown this season with Jurgen Klopp’s side 18 points ahead of Manchester City before Sunday’s final game at NewcastleHenderson also spearheaded the #playerstogether initiative during the coronavirus lockdown which saw players team up with NHS Charities Together to raise money for the NHS.He said: “I’d like to say how appreciative I am of the support of those who voted for me and the Football Writers’ Association in general.“You only have to look at the past winners of it, a number of whom I’ve been blessed to play with here at Liverpool, like Stevie (Steven Gerrard), Luis (Suarez) and Mo (Mohamed Salah) to know how prestigious it is.“But as grateful as I am I don’t feel like I can accept this on my own. I don’t feel like anything I’ve achieved this season or in fact during my whole career has been done on my own. “I owe a lot to so many different people – but none more so than my current team-mates – who have just been incredible and deserve this every bit as much as I do.“We’ve only achieved what we’ve achieved because every single member of our squad has been brilliant and not just in matches. Not just in producing the moments that make the headlines and the back pages but every day in training.“The players who’ve started the most games for us this season have been as good as they have been because of our culture and our environment at Melwood. No one individual is responsible for that – it’s a collective effort and that’s how I view accepting this honour.“I accept it on behalf of this whole squad, because without them I’m not in a position to be receiving this honour. These lads have made me a better player – a better leader and a better person.“If anything I hope those who voted for me did so partly to recognise the entire team’s contribution. “Individual awards are nice and they are special and I will cherish this one. But an individual award without the collective achievement wouldn’t mean anywhere as much to me – if anything at all.”Tags: FWA Footballer of the awardJordan Hendersonkevin de bruynelast_img read more

Dodgers scratch Corey Seager with quadriceps injury

first_imgRoberts said that Seager is a candidate to serve as the Dodgers’ designated hitter Monday in San diego.ROSTER CRUNCHWhen MLB and the Players’ Association agreed to expand active rosters to 30 players to begin the season, they also agreed to reduce rosters to 28 after two weeks. Thursday is the two-week mark, and a rare off-day for the Dodgers in the 60-game season.“I have heard rumblings that they’re contemplating keeping them at 30,” Roberts said. “Right now we’re planning on the rosters being at 28.”The two cuts will come from a 12-man bullpen that collectively leads MLB in relievers’ ERA (1.06), Roberts said. Retaining cattle ownership in the midst of declining prices

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Under normal market conditions, it can be profitable for cow-calf producers to wean and background their calves in the fall. Historically, feeder cattle prices dip in early fall when many producers choose to market their calves before bouncing back to higher levels in the late fall and early winter months.Producers who wean and background their calves during this time frame are often able to ride out the seasonal price slump and take advantage of this cycle in normal years. Is that still the best strategy if the market is in the midst of a price decline that is not expected to fully recover? Some larger producers may be able to use the futures markets to hedge and “lock in” a profitable price with only basis risk, but many smaller producers are not easily afforded this luxury. So what happens upon closer examination of a few price scenarios? First of all, assume that a producer will want to wean now and will continue to grow the calves for 90 days. In other words, the calves will be weaned now and backgrounded until November. Further, assume that the calves weigh approximately 500 pounds today and that they will gain two pounds per day. That results in a selling weight of around 680 pounds in November. These are all reasonable assumptions that could apply to many spring-calving cow-calf producers across the U.S. Using the most recent reported Oklahoma City feeder prices, a calf weighing 500 pounds will sell for around $238.41 per hundredweight while a 680-pound calf will sell for around $214.41 per hundredweight. That equates to approximately $1,192 for a 500-pound calf and $1,458 for a 680-pound animal, a $266.94 per head difference. If prices remain constant for the next 90 days and a producer can grow a calf for 90 days for cheaper than $266.94 per head, he/she could turn a profit. But, we all know that prices will likely change between now and November. Since mid-July, Oklahoma City prices for 650- to 700-pound steers have dropped by more than $20 per hundredweight. In mid-September, the November feeder cattle futures contract was trading for nearly $7 per hundredweight less that the September futures, indicating that traders believe cash prices will be lower in November than they are now. If a producer were to hedge and assuming that there is no change in basis between now and November, the difference in revenue between selling now and backgrounding until November narrows from $266.94 per head to $215.55 per head. While some producers could hedge and ensure themselves a gross return of $215.55, one would need at least 73 steers to be able to hedge without assuming at least some additional risk through speculation. If 650- to 700-pound steer prices drop even more to $200 per hundredweight or even $195 per hundredweight, then difference narrows to roughly $168 per head and $134 per head, respectively. As the revenue differences shrink, it becomes much more difficult to cover costs, and the door starts to open for potential losses instead of profits. There is a great deal of uncertainty surrounding today’s cattle markets. The bears have been running the show recently, and it looks like the trend might continue in the near future. The possibility always exists that markets could turn the other way as well, particularly given such tight supplies. It is more important now than ever before that U.S. cattle producers are aware of market movements and how price fluctuations can impact their bottom lines, especially those who plan on retaining their calves past weaning.last_img read more

10 Things You Don’t Know Success Demands of You

first_imgThere are likely some things you don’t know about success. In your pursuit of success (whatever that means to you, and however you define it) it is harmful to your effort to be ignorant of these things. The following list of 10 things you don’t know about success will provide you with a more precise and more certain path to finding it.It Makes DemandsSuccess is demanding. It requires that you recognize and meet those demands, many of which you will find on this page. It might look like some people have a level of success having met success’s requirements, but that is an illusion. It is not a real success, and that success will eventually be revealed to have been a facade, and the person less successful than you imagined. Success avoids many because they avoid its demands. It Requires Payment in FullSuccess requires payment in full and in advance. Without making the full payment, success will avoid you and your attempts to possess it. It also isn’t willing to allow you to possess it and then pay for it later. All attempts to cheat success of what it demands only pushes success further away from you. It doesn’t acknowledge shortcuts, and it cannot be fooled into giving itself to someone who tries to steal success by avoiding paying the price. It Believes You Need to GrowSuccess believes you are too small. It doesn’t think you’re big enough to possess it. Instead, it thinks you need to grow before you can possess it. If you were capable of generating the success you want as you are right now, success would already be yours. Success is waiting for the future you to show up, and there is no future you if you don’t do the hard work of transformation, shedding all the limiting beliefs and behaviors and replacing them with better, stronger ones. You must outgrow who you are now to become the person that comes after this one, the person who can create that success. It Believes You Are Not Trying Hard EnoughSuccess is an auditor. It measures your results as well as your effort. Success knows you hit the snooze button three times this morning, preferring 27 more minutes in your warm, comfortable mountain of blankets and pillows. Success thinks you are softer than those blankets and pillows. It is also very well aware of the time you spend on social media sites, playing video games, or wasting time on things that have nothing to do with what you profess to want. Success doesn’t acknowledge “wanting.” It only looks for the effort that produces results. It Avoids You for Being InconsistentYou did excellent work today, the kind of work that success truly appreciates. But success is not so easily convinced by a single event, regardless of how well you performed and how spectacular the results. It’s looking for the disciplined action consistently exerted over time. When you finally start, success notices. But because you stop a day later, success turns its back on you and briskly walks away. It has seen too many people who are motivated for a few hours, only to go back to their non-success-producing beliefs and behaviors less than 24 hours later. You will never have success when you are inconsistent. It Gives Up on Those Who Give UpSuccess gives up on people who give up on themselves. If you aren’t willing to pursue what you want with an insatiable and unquenchable desire, success isn’t willing to show itself to you. Other people may have given up on you in the past, and some may give up on you in the future. Success cares nothing about their opinion. It only cares whether or not you give up on yourself. As long as you believe in yourself strongly enough to never give up, that is the factor success will measure. It Will Continually Test YouYou are going to come very close to success, so close in fact, that you will believe you have obtained it. When you are near, success will test you. It will give you an obstacle you didn’t expect, and one you are not prepared to overcome. It will move the goalpost just out of your reach, testing your will, and challenging your resolve. Success may check you by allowing you to come close, only to let you see what it requires of you. It may also test you to see what level of success you want and if you are capable of possessing it. Be sure that success will test you.It Doesn’t Care About Your PreferencesYou may have a particular set of preferences that are out of step with what success demands. You might believe that you should be able to have the success you want at work without having to give yourself over to the work. You might also think you can have success in your personal life without hustling as hard at creating the relationships and experience you want for the people you love. You might prefer some strategy or another because you believe it should bring you success. Success, however, is utterly unconcerned by what you think you should have to do. It demands you do what it commands, or it walks. It Degrades Over TimeSuccess isn’t an event. It is a level of experience. It requires care and feeding and routine maintenance. You have no doubt seen a person capture what looks like success only to implode a short time later. Success requires you maintain it. It is demanding, requiring you to keep working for it, and requiring more of you for every incremental increase.Success Will Show You Greater SuccessWhen you reach a certain level of success, success will show you a higher level of success. Like climbing a mountain, the higher your vantage point, the more you can see. Because you have grown to the point you have a certain level of success, you are now ready to pursue an even higher level of success. The process of obtaining success only to see something more is an upward spiral, a virtuous cycle that allows you to continue to improve throughout your life. And since no human being is capable of reaching their full potential, this process is one without end.It may also help to know that your watch is not evidence of success. However, what you do with your time may be a more accurate indicator. Get the Free eBook! Learn how to sell without a sales manager. Download my free eBook! You need to make sales. You need help now.
